AM-CC backs Nuria Cabrera and Juan José Rodríguez to take Fuerteventura’s voice to the Senate and Congress

Asamblea Majorera – Coalición Canaria Fuerteventura has chosen Nuria Cabrera as its candidate for the Senate from Fuerteventura and Juan José Rodríguez to take third place on the electoral list for the Congress of Deputies of the coalition between Primero Canarias and Coalición Canaria, ahead of the next general election on Sunday 29 November.

Both candidacies were unanimously ratified by the Assembly and the Island Political Council, following votes held at the island headquarters. The political party has opted for a new generation of candidates who have shown a strong commitment to the party and to the institutions in which they serve.

AM-CC Fuerteventura’s island secretary, Mario Cabrera, said the unanimous backing demonstrated the organisation’s confidence in both candidates. “They are the voices from Fuerteventura we need to defend Fuerteventura’s interests before the State,” he said.

“We want to bring the commitment we have shown through the island’s institutions to the Senate too and, if the election results allow, to the Congress of Deputies,” he added.

Mario Cabrera warned that the upcoming election would open up “a complex national political landscape, marked by confrontation between two large blocs, increasingly concerned with their party interests rather than responding to the real needs of the Canary Islands”.

In response, he argued that “having Canary Islands nationalist representation in Madrid is essential to improving the lives of those of us who live on the eight islands and ensuring our rights endure, whoever is in government nationally”.

Senate candidate Nuria Cabrera thanked the organisation for the confidence it had placed in her and highlighted the responsibility involved in taking on the candidacy. “Fuerteventura faces many challenges in the current political climate, particularly in areas of concern to the island’s population, such as housing, water and connectivity, among other things,” the candidate said.

She also argued that Fuerteventura needed its own voice in the Senate, able to put forward the island’s demands and call on the State for concrete responses and commitments. “In these times, people need to be given hope that a useful vote does exist.”

Juan José Rodríguez to stand for Congress

Congress candidate Juan José Rodríguez welcomed the proposal with enthusiasm and stressed the importance of restoring a politics focused on the needs of the island’s population. “In this election, the nationalist vote is decisive. We need representatives who will defend the interests of the Canary Islands without being constrained by the directives of the major national parties,” he said.

AM-CC Fuerteventura concluded by calling on party members and supporters to face this new election together. “Now is the time to show the strength of our organisation and our ability to continue defending Fuerteventura wherever decisions affecting our island are made.”
