Antigua approves multi-year waste and public-space cleaning contract worth €9.4 million

Antigua Town Council unanimously approved the municipality’s waste and street-cleaning procedure at a plenary meeting yesterday.

Juan Cabrera said the procedure had been considered at an extraordinary and urgent meeting of the Information Committee on Plenary Affairs, held on 24 September 2026.

A proposal from the Mayor, dated 23 September 2026, concerned the award of LOT 1, “PUBLIC-SPACE CLEANING AND COLLECTION AND TRANSPORT OF WASTE UNDER LOCAL AUTHORITY RESPONSIBILITY”, under the services contract entitled “Provision of the Service for the Collection and Transport of Waste under Local Authority Responsibility, Cleaning of Public Spaces and Cleaning of Buildings in the Municipality of Antigua”.

More frequent collections, daytime and night-time services, more vehicles and staff, and awareness campaigns

Cabrera said this was “an important improvement achieved during these first hundred days of government, after many hours of work to complete this open procedure under the ordinary process”. The contract was awarded to the joint venture formed by FCC EQUAL CEE CANARIAS S.L.U, FCC MEDIO AMBIENTE S.A.U and CAPROSS 2004 SL.

“We must thank the entire technical team at Antigua Town Council and the governing group for their efforts. We have managed to complete this essential procedure to improve the cleaning service in our municipality, and with the new company coming in, residents and businesses in our municipality will see a significant change,” the Mayor said.

The contract specifications include significant improvements, he said, such as “a commitment to install 100 more bins than required by the specifications, two additional collection rounds in Caleta de Fuste, in the morning and at night, environmental education and awareness campaigns, new vehicles and more staff, among other measures”.
