Antigua renews agreement with Radio ECCA and offers 20 training grants for unemployed residents
Antigua has renewed its agreement with Radio ECCA and is offering 20 training grants for unemployed residents.
Antigua Town Council has renewed its collaboration with Radio ECCA to continue providing formal education for unemployed residents and help them gain official qualifications that could improve their chances of entering the labour market.
Antigua Mayor Juan Cabrera and Education Councillor Sebastiana Verde presented the new education agreement for this academic year alongside Carmen Nieves Hernández Díaz, director of Radio ECCA in Fuerteventura.
The initiative includes 20 grants for unemployed Antigua residents over the age of 18 who are experiencing financial hardship. They can study Initial Education for Adults (EIPA), Secondary Education for Adults (ESPA) and Baccalaureate courses, all leading to official qualifications.
Training to improve employment prospects
The agreement aims to help people who were unable to complete their studies gain an official qualification, improve their academic education and increase their employment opportunities.
“The idea is to expand the agreement and its budget, because this administration believes all our residents should be able to further their studies, with more courses and investment in training,” says Mayor Juan Cabrera.
The programme uses Radio ECCA’s flexible distance-learning method, designed especially for adults who need to fit their studies around work, family responsibilities or other personal circumstances.
In-person classes in Antigua
One feature of the agreement is that the Town Council provides municipal facilities where Radio ECCA teachers can hold in-person classes in Antigua.
Education Councillor Sebastiana Verde says this means participants do not have to travel to other municipalities to continue their studies.
The agreement between Antigua Town Council and Radio ECCA was launched in 2023, and enrolment is currently open to interested applicants.
