Contigo Tuineje calls the “inept” municipal government’s handling a “boycott” after Tran Tran Festival is suspended

The party denounces the “absolute incompetence and paralysis” of the Coalición Canaria–PSOE governing pact, which it says has allowed Gran Tarajal’s most important cultural and economic event to die. José Manuel Quintana, the party’s island president, warns that the municipality “cannot remain under the control of an inept government that destroys our identity and punishes local businesses”.

Contigo Tuineje calls the “inept” municipal government’s handling a “boycott” after Tran Tran Festival is suspended

The political group Contigo Tuineje has expressed its strongest rejection and indignation following official confirmation that the 2026 edition of the International Clown Festival Tran Tran in Gran Tarajal has been suspended.

For the group led by José Manuel Quintana, the cancellation is not an isolated incident but the direct result of an “institutional boycott” and the “neglect” of a governing group (CC and PSOE) “that is completely out of touch with the needs and feelings of the municipality’s residents”.

Contigo Tuineje describes the situation as untenable and directly accuses Tuineje Town Council of being solely responsible for the Canary Islands’ most important clown festival not taking to the streets of the municipality.

The group says poor planning and unpaid bills, which organisers and suppliers have been dealing with for the past two years, have ultimately wrecked an event that is part of Tuineje’s collective pride and identity.

“An inept government that is ruining the municipality”

The group’s spokesperson was unequivocal in assessing the current local governing pact: “We cannot continue to allow ourselves to be governed by an inefficient and inept executive whose inability to manage ends up costing residents.”

Contigo Tuineje stresses that losing Tran Tran is not only a severe blow to culture and community organisations, but also a direct attack on the local economy. Restaurants, cafés and small businesses in Gran Tarajal are losing a vital economic boost that sustained many families’ livelihoods.

The group alleges that the local executive chose to ignore warnings and turn its back on requests from volunteers and businesses in the municipality, demonstrating a complete lack of political will to save the festival.

Contigo Tuineje is therefore demanding immediate, transparent explanations from the CC and PSOE government about the real reasons for the payment delays and lack of forward planning. It is also urging the municipal council to act immediately to find urgent solutions that would allow Tran Tran to return as an in-person event and halt the cultural and economic paralysis gripping the municipality.
