Police and security services give El Castillo schoolchildren a “historic” demonstration during the Peña del Mar festivities

The demonstration by the police and security services for pupils at CEIP El Castillo was a resounding success last Friday, 9 October, the local council said in a press release.

The children tried on the uniforms and equipment, learned about some of the electronic devices used and found out about the day-to-day work of the different police services. The event was a historic initiative by the Peña del Mar Festival Committee in El Castillo.

Mayor Juan Cabrera thanked the officers for their commitment to running workshops and explaining the work they do in the municipality. Antigua Town Council presented commemorative plaques in recognition of their attendance.

The councillor for Security and Emergencies, David Alberto Guerra, apologised for the absence of the Canary Islands Police, who were unable to attend. He recalled that the force began operating in the municipality on 3 July, marking a historic step in helping to ensure the area’s safety. “We are grateful to the Civil Guard for its efforts. It brought the event to a close with a display flight by a Civil Guard helicopter from Las Palmas. We also thank the officers for their professionalism and approachability, alongside the Local Police and Civil Protection. We have seen that when all the services work together, public safety is improved,” Alberto added.

The first deputy mayor and councillor for Tourism, Joana Verde, said: “It is an honour and a privilege to have so many officers together in this area, giving different demonstrations. It was an unforgettable experience for all the pupils, teachers and the rest of us.”

Meanwhile, the councillor for Festivals, Lucila Ruiz, praised the smooth running of the day.

The event was supported by the AECA Caleta de Fuste Business Association and attended by the Government Delegate in Fuerteventura, María Jesús de la Cruz, who praised the unity of all the forces and services in putting on such enjoyable events as the one held in Caleta de Fuste.
