A 25-year-old man arrested in Corralejo for allegedly attacking someone with a machete after a fight

The Guardia Civil in Fuerteventura has arrested a 25-year-old man on suspicion of causing serious injury after allegedly attacking another person with a machete during a fight.

The arrest was made on 29 October, the Las Palmas Guardia Civil Command said on Friday, 6 November.

The case came to light after the victim filed a complaint, reporting two consecutive attacks at different locations in Corralejo, in the municipality of La Oliva.

Two attacks: first at a shopping centre, then at home

According to information provided by the Guardia Civil, the incident began at a shopping centre in Corralejo, where the victim was allegedly assaulted by two people.

The victim suffered minor injuries in this first attack and had to go to a health centre for treatment.

After receiving treatment, they returned home, where, according to their complaint, one of the alleged attackers was present.

A second attack then took place, this time with a machete, leaving the victim with a wound of around seven centimetres to one arm.

The injury required medical treatment and stitches.

Suspect tried to hide on the rooftops of several homes

After the complaint was filed, Guardia Civil officers and La Oliva Local Police began the necessary work to locate the main suspect.

During the search, the alleged attacker tried to hide on the rooftops of different homes in the town while carrying the weapon that investigators believe was used in the attack.

Officers eventually found and arrested him within hours of the complaint being filed.

He was subject to a judicial search and arrest warrant

During the investigation, officers established that the detainee was also subject to a judicial search and arrest warrant relating to earlier incidents.

After his arrest, the man was brought before the Investigation Section of the Puerto del Rosario Court of Instance, along with the case file prepared by the Guardia Civil.

The police investigation was carried out in collaboration with La Oliva Local Police.
