Dojo Guaboren will hold the 7th edition of its Women’s Self-Defence Seminar on 21 November, from 09:00 to 14:00, at Gran Tarajal Sports Pavilion.
More than 700 women have taken part in the training, which this year will be led by instructors including Juan José Lorenzo (Gran Canaria), Noelia Moreno (Madrid), Giuseppe Caracena (Italy), Alexis Alonso (Fuerteventura) and Francisco Querol (Valencia).
Sports Councillor Luis González highlighted the support the event receives through the Fuerteventura Island Council’s island sports funding programme. “The event also fulfils the social purpose of all sporting activity, in this case bringing equality and sport together.”
Tuineje Mayor David Herrera thanked Dojo Guaboren for always relying on Tuineje Town Council to hold the activity in the municipality. “It is a source of pride to host the 7th edition of an initiative that helps drive the transformative power of sport, with all the effort that entails for the Dojo.”
Dojo Guaboren president Alexis Alonso encouraged everyone interested to take part and explained that the initiative is part of the Dojo Guaboren social inclusion project Stop a La Violencia.
He also thanked the El Castillejo Residents’ Association, which is responsible for the social side of the event this year. To register, participants must donate one kilogram of non-perishable food or pet food. Alonso also thanked all the organisations and individuals supporting the project and helping to make it a reality, and said that people can register by calling 659 697 999.
Javier Alonso, president of the El Castillejo Residents’ Association in Tesjuate and Llanos Pelados, congratulated Dojo Guaboren, the Island Council, the Town Council and everyone involved in the seminar, which also has a strong charitable dimension through the association’s participation.
Also present at the launch were Carlos Van Linden, marketing technician at Playitas Resort; Antigua councillor Victoria Cerdeña; opposition councillor Sonia Álamo; and other Guaboren representatives.
