Fuerteventura Island Council launches fifth ‘I Buy in Fuerteventura’ campaign to boost local trade
Fuerteventura Island Council has launched the fifth edition of ‘I Buy in Fuerteventura’, a campaign to boost local trade.
Fuerteventura Island Council on Monday launched the fifth edition of the ‘I Buy in Fuerteventura’ campaign, an initiative designed to boost economic activity across the island and support local businesses through a voucher scheme that allows shoppers to save 50% on purchases at participating shops.
Fuerteventura Island Council president Lola García, island councillor for Trade Lolina Negrín and the president of the Federation of Urban Areas of the Canary Islands (FAUCA), Abbas Moujir, took part in the launch. The campaign is backed by €400,000 in funding, provided entirely by the island council.
The ‘I Buy in Fuerteventura’ campaign is being run in partnership with FAUCA. It aims to encourage people to shop locally, strengthen the competitiveness of small businesses and ensure that spending benefits the island’s economy.
“Small businesses are essential to Fuerteventura. They create jobs, bring life to our towns and cities, and help ensure that the wealth we generate stays here on our island,” Lola García said.
Lolina Negrín encouraged businesses across the island to register from today through the dedicated platform. She said the Trade Department initiative “will benefit families and small businesses in Fuerteventura, which are the foundation of the majorero economy”.
Abbas Moujir highlighted “the support FAUCA provides to businesses in Fuerteventura. This year, it is putting up to 37,100 vouchers into circulation, representing an economic boost of more than €740,000”. Registration for businesses opens today, he said, adding that he hoped the scheme would give the retail sector “an extra incentive as it faces the Christmas trading period”.
Also attending the launch were representatives of the Puerto del Rosario Traders’ Association, the ‘La Gavia’ Traders’ Association (Tuineje), the Antigua Business and Traders’ Association (AECA), and the ‘Empronor’ Northern Commercial, Business and Professional Association (La Oliva).
Vouchers offering 50% savings
The campaign will offer vouchers worth €20, of which shoppers will pay just €10; the remaining €10 will be funded by Fuerteventura Island Council. Each person may buy a maximum of 15 vouchers, linked to their DNI or NIE identity number.
The vouchers will be available from 12 noon on 10 November via www.yocomproenfuerteventura.com. They can be purchased until 20 January 2027 or until the available funds have run out.
The vouchers work like a digital wallet and can be used at participating shops until their value is spent, with 20 January 2027 as the final date for use. To redeem them, shoppers must present the relevant QR code and verify their identity using the DNI or NIE linked to the purchase.
Business registration
Businesses wishing to take part in the fifth edition can apply to join from 12 noon this Monday, 26 October, using the form available on the campaign website.
Businesses carrying out commercial activities listed in groups 64 and 65, and under heading 6622, of the classification used for the Economic Activities Tax (IAE) may participate. The updated list of participating businesses, along with their locations and the remaining funds, can be viewed at www.yocomproenfuerteventura.com.
Questions about the programme’s terms and operation, as well as the requirements for joining or purchasing vouchers, can be sent to yocomproenfuerteventura@fauca.org.
Technical issues with the platform affecting businesses or shoppers will be handled Monday to Friday, from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. Telephone: 675 633 988 / 653 818 784.
