Fuerteventura Island Council steps up school activities with more than twenty initiatives

Fuerteventura Island Council, through its Department of Education, is presenting the ‘Cabildo Educa’ programme, which offers more than twenty learning activities for all schools on Fuerteventura. The activities take place throughout the school year and include study days, meetings, motivational talks and other educational events for pupils, teachers and families.

Fuerteventura Island Council President Lola García said: “The aim of this wide-ranging programme is to educate and support our pupils and educational community, strengthening the activities offered to schools across the island throughout the 2026–2027 school year.”

The programme invites schools across the island to take part in activities focused on learning, reflection and sharing experiences, featuring leading figures such as Pedro Piqueras, Carolina Marín and David Pastor Vico.

Education Councillor Adargoma Hernández said: “It is important to bring pupils real stories of effort, resilience and leadership through role models whose experiences offer lessons that can be applied both in their personal lives and in their studies.”

Badminton world champion Carolina Marín will give an inspirational talk on overcoming adversity, discipline and mental strength on 19 October.

On 11 November, philosopher and communicator David Pastor Vico will give a talk reflecting on how the loss of free play, the weakening of community life and intensive screen use affect physical development.

A discussion about screen use between journalist Pedro Piqueras and psychologist Andrea Fernández will also take place on 23 November. It aims to help students develop good consumption habits that protect their learning, rest and relationships.

These activities will take place at the Fuerteventura Island Auditorium. Schools can register at: https://docs.google.com/forms/ d/e/ 1FAIpQLScrHtSbMQHlmQqoZgUIbh4U UaTu3hxQ4tUlE1haphELCDX7ZQ/ viewform

The Emocuidando sessions will also take place in November, offering a space for reflection, inspiration and learning about emotional health. Media literacy training will also be provided for pupils, teachers and families, helping them understand and critically assess the information they receive through the media.

The programme includes activities delivered in collaboration with other departments of the Island Council: Semana Azul and No Olvides Lo Nuestro (Sports); PequecityLab, Proyecto Calimbre, FuerteventurIA and Gaming Educativo (New Technologies); Programa de Animación a la Lectura and Isla de Cuentos (Culture); Aprender Jugando and the ‘El Enigma de Unamuno’ escape room (Fuerteventura Museums); Conocer para Proteger (Environment); Paisajes con Historia (Heritage); and Arqueólogos por un Día (Fuerteventura Archaeological Museum).
