Open-air cinema returns to El Cotillo

The public square in El Cotillo will host a special screening of Cine Ambulante de Verano on 8 October at 8pm. The project, organised by Tenique Cultural, revives the spirit of traditional open-air cinemas and offers a welcoming, family-friendly cultural experience to be shared.

After successful screenings in municipalities across Lanzarote and in Antigua in August, Cine Ambulante de Verano is returning to the municipality of La Oliva with a free event that invites residents and visitors to enjoy a film together in a public outdoor space.

The programme includes the remarkable film My Neighbor Totoro, one of the best-loved works of animated cinema. Its luminous, sensitive story, deeply connected to childhood imagination, appeals to audiences of all ages.

The film follows two sisters who move to the countryside and discover a world filled with extraordinary creatures. It offers a cinematic invitation to wonder, tenderness and imagination. Its ability to move children and adults alike makes it an especially fitting choice for an outdoor screening designed as an intergenerational family gathering.

The project, organised by Tenique Cultural, is once again supported by La Oliva Town Council’s Culture Department and retains the philosophy that has guided it since it began. Its aim is to bring carefully selected films to squares and open spaces, encouraging people of different generations to come together and reviving a simple, communal way of enjoying cinema.

Javier Fuentes Feo, president of the Tenique Cultural association, said: “This new screening in La Oliva allows Cine Ambulante de Verano to continue expanding across the Canary Islands and to strengthen the project’s ties with public spaces where cinema can be experienced together. The event invites people to enjoy an unforgettable film in a welcoming setting, bringing back the pleasure of gathering around the big screen.”

Cine Ambulante de Verano is a project organised by Tenique Cultural. This screening is sponsored by La Oliva Town Council’s Culture Department.
