El Cotillo to host island-wide International Youth Day celebration with music, sport and activities for all
El Cotillo will host the island-wide International Youth Day celebration, with music, sport and activities for all.
To mark International Youth Day, observed every 12 August, Fuerteventura Island Council has organised a day of activities in El Cotillo, to be held on 15 August. Muelle Chico will host a free programme combining music, entertainment, sport and water-based activities to celebrate a day dedicated to recognising the role of young people in society.
Fuerteventura Island Council President Lola García said: “Young people are key to the island’s development and deserve spaces where they can share experiences, express their creativity and take an active part in social life. With this event, we want to celebrate an international day that shines a spotlight on the talent, concerns and potential of the next generation.”
The programme will run from 12.00 to 21.00 and include a Gaming Challenge, water-based activities, background music, a foam cannon and a live performance by Marta Umpiérrez. It is aimed primarily at young people, although everyone is welcome to take part.
Education and Youth Councillor Adargoma Hernández said: “International Youth Day is an opportunity to highlight young people’s ability to transform society and recognise their involvement in Fuerteventura’s present and future. We wanted to mark the day with an engaging, participatory and accessible event that brings young people from different municipalities together in a setting as special as El Cotillo.”
The International Youth Day celebration is part of the annual programme run by Fuerteventura Island Council’s Youth Department to promote youth participation and bring cultural and leisure activities to the island’s young people.
