Di Napoli claims a double victory and stays top of the Island League for Lateen-Sailed Barquillos.

The 2026 “Fuerteventura Island Council” Island League for Lateen-Sailed Barquillos was able to complete both scheduled races in the bay of Puerto del Rosario on Saturday. The day helped the competition catch up after difficulties in the opening weeks and ended with a double victory for Di Napoli - Isidoro y Manuela III, skippered by Pascual Perdomo.

The afternoon began with the league’s fourth race. From the first legs, the fleet could be seen spread across the course, although several close encounters developed as boats approached the buoys. The buoy roundings provided some of the tightest moments of the race, with several boats having little room to manoeuvre before the gaps opened up again.

As the race progressed, the leading positions began to take shape, and Di Napoli moved to the front in the decisive part of the course to claim victory. Isidoro y Manuela JM - Café Café, skippered by Daniel de Agustín, finished second, while Julio Stephen - Dany Sport, skippered by Adolfo Berrocal, completed the podium.

The first outstanding race completed

After a short break, the fleet lined up for the afternoon’s second race, which counted as the first race of the Island League for Lateen-Sailed Barquillos and had been postponed from the opening day.

The rescheduled race again brought changes of direction, with the fleet bunching up at various points along the course, particularly on the approaches to the buoys. Di Napoli crossed the finish line first, securing its second win of the afternoon. The barquillo skippered by Adolfo Berrocal followed in second place, while El Gran Vito, absent from the previous race day, finished third.

Holding both races also helped restore a degree of normality after the start of the competition had been particularly affected by conditions on the water. The opening day was cancelled because of heavy swell and, later, a lack of wind prevented the two races scheduled for the next event from being completed. Saturday was the first time the full programme had gone ahead.

Three races, three points for the leader

Saturday’s results bring the provisional league standings to three races. Di Napoli - Isidoro y Manuela III lead the standings on 3 points, having finished first in every race held so far.

Julio Stephen - Dany Sport are second on 9 points, while Isidoro y Manuela JM - Café Café are third on 10. Impermeabilizaciones Jorge have the same number of points and are fourth, after making a very strong start to the league.

They are followed by C.N. Península de Jandía, fifth on 19 points; La Oliva es tu Deporte - Escuela de Vela, sixth on 21; El Gran Vito, seventh on 24; Club Náutico Fuerteventura, eighth on 25; Morales y Cabrera, ninth on 28; Isla de Fuerteventura, tenth on 31; Isidoro y Manuela - Metálicas El Norte, eleventh on 33; Norteño, twelfth on 39; and Amany, thirteenth on 42 points.

The 2026 “Fuerteventura Island Council” Island League for Lateen-Sailed Barquillos will continue on 26 September in the bay of Puerto del Rosario, with another day of racing.
