The 2026 International Kite Festival fills the skies over Corralejo and El Cotillo with colour
More than 200 kite flyers will take to the skies with a kaleidoscope of colours from 9 to 15 November, in an event not to be missed by residents and visitors to Fuerteventura.
Corralejo is once again the meeting point for more than 200 kite flyers from around the world at the 39th International Kite Festival. From 9 to 15 November, kites will fill the skies over Corralejo and El Cotillo with a kaleidoscope of colours, as residents and visitors to Fuerteventura gather for this much-anticipated event. La Oliva Town Council, through its Department of Tourism and the Environment, headed by David Fajardo, is presenting the new edition alongside the Fuerteventura Island Council and the Canary Islands Government. This year’s new feature is a drone show in Corralejo Bay, set to be the largest ever held in the Canary Islands.
By day, the festival will feature its usual programme, which has become a defining part of the event. As in previous years, visitors can enjoy an astro-science day, a giant-doll park and the second edition of the ‘Kitefestival’ Quick Painting Competition, among other surprises. After nightfall on 13 and 14 November, the drone show will once again light up Corralejo Bay. This year, the International Kite Festival will host the largest drone show in the Canary Islands to date, with a total of 500 devices flying over the skies to create forms impossible for the human eye to imagine.
La Oliva mayor Isaí Blanco invited residents and visitors to attend: “We invite our residents, as well as visitors to the island, to come and enjoy these very special days with their families on the beaches of Corralejo and El Cotillo. It is an event that has retained the charm of its first edition, while its reach grows year after year.”
Tourism and Environment Councillor David Fajardo said: “This international event continues to take place year after year thanks to the tireless work of kite flyers from around the world, who gather on the beaches of our municipality every November. At the same time, we emphasise the importance of continuing to care for our natural environment. Environmental guides, perimeter fencing, shuttle services, ecological toilets and environmental workshops are among the measures we will use to ensure the event retains its commitment to protecting our territory.”
Fuerteventura Island Council Tourism Councillor Marlene Figueroa also highlighted that “this is a much-anticipated event with an important focus on environmental awareness”.
Finally, on behalf of the Canary Islands Government’s Department of Tourism and Employment, Gesprotur chief executive Ignacio Solana said: “The International Kite Festival has the firm support of the department. It is not only a top-level event that champions a social and sustainable tourism model; it is also designed for a wide range of audiences and always takes place in a family-friendly atmosphere.”
