Canary Islands Government changes access to Rosa de la Monja during works on the new Puerto del Rosario–La Caldereta motorway

The Canary Islands Government’s Department of Public Works, Housing and Mobility, through the Directorate General for Road Infrastructure, led by Rosana Melián, has announced a change to access to the settlement of Rosa de la Monja in Fuerteventura during construction of the new Puerto del Rosario–La Caldereta motorway, which includes the bypasses of the FV-1, FV-3 and FV-2 roads.

The traffic diversion on the FV-230, which provides access to the settlement, will begin on 15 October 2026. The change is required to lay the pavement layers on the new motorway and its central reservation, completing work on the main carriageway where it intersects with the FV-230.

Once the diversion takes effect, vehicles travelling to Rosa de la Monja will have to use the new roundabout on the FV-1, at kilometre point 2+700, which is connected to the new La Hondura junction.

The change establishes permanent access to the settlement via the new road infrastructure, in line with the layout set out in the project currently under way.

To keep traffic moving and minimise disruption for road users, the diversion will be clearly signposted and supervised by construction workers as it is put in place.

The Department asks drivers to take extra care, watch for temporary signs and follow the instructions in place when travelling to Rosa de la Monja while the work is under way.
