Antigua PP hails progress towards resuming work on nursery school by year-end
Antigua PP hails progress towards resuming work on the nursery school by year-end.
The People’s Party (PP) in Antigua has welcomed the willingness of the Canary Islands Government’s Department of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sport, led by Poli Suárez, and Antigua Town Council’s Education Department, headed by Joana Verde, to work together to find a solution and continue work on the municipality’s nursery school.
Following a working meeting this summer between Antigua Town Council and regional minister Poli Suárez, also attended by Tourism and Employment Minister and Fuerteventura PP president Jéssica de León, plans were confirmed to resume work at the end of 2026 and complete it between March and April 2027.
Work began in 2025 but was halted following various issues with the contractor. This required the relevant administrative procedures to be carried out to get the project back on track and award a new contract.
Infrastructure to help families balance work and home life
Antigua PP president Toño Fránquiz thanked Joana Verde, the councillor for Tourism, Beaches and Education, for her work to get the nursery school project moving again.
Fránquiz said it was “a very important and necessary facility, as it helps residents of the municipality balance family life and work”.
The party’s president in Antigua also praised the willingness shown by Canary Islands Government Education Minister Poli Suárez, as well as “his concern and commitment to ensuring these facilities are completed as soon as possible and made available to families in Antigua”.
Completion expected between March and April 2027
The PP stressed the importance of keeping the process under continuous review once a new contract has been awarded, to ensure work proceeds swiftly.
The stated plan is to resume work at the end of 2026 and complete the nursery school between March and April 2027, following the suspension of work during the project.
