Fuerteventura PSOE urges Canary Islands Government to speed up Tarajalejo seafront works, already approved
The Canary Islands Coastal Authority (Ministry for Ecological Transition) has given the go-ahead to the file initiated by Tuineje Town Council and forwarded it to the Directorate-General for Coasts (Canary Islands Government) for final processing.
The Socialist Party (PSOE) in Fuerteventura is urging the Directorate-General for Coasts, part of the Canary Islands Government’s Department of Public Works, Housing and Mobility, to act swiftly after the file initiated by Tuineje Town Council to repair the Tarajalejo seafront received the approval of the Coastal Authority of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge.
José Cabrera, the PSOE in Fuerteventura’s secretary for municipal policy, the primary sector, food and food sovereignty, says: “We have an opportunity to work together, without electoralism, and provide an institutional response to the damage caused by Storm Therese in March this year. It severely damaged part of the Tarajalejo seafront and is still affecting the local economy and residents’ quality of life.”
“This is the time to show vision and work for the common good of Fuerteventura,” José Cabrera insists, following progress in the processing of the project to carry out works on the Tarajalejo seafront to address the damage caused by the storm in March 2026.
Miguel Andújar, secretary-general of the PSOE in Tuineje and the Town Council’s councillor for public works, says: “Tuineje Town Council has done its job, and so has the Coastal Authority. We are therefore asking the Directorate-General for Coasts to process the project with the same commitment, because this is a problem that must be resolved as soon as possible and the people of Tarajalejo cannot continue to put up with it.”
In its letter, the Coastal Authority confirms that responsibility for the proposed works to repair the Tarajalejo seafront lies with the Directorate-General for Coasts, which comes under the Canary Islands Government’s Department of Public Works. It has therefore cleared the way for the project’s processing and implementation to continue, as requested by Tuineje Town Council.
