El Cotillo in Fuerteventura fills with ‘Sal y Arte’ from 8 to 10 October

El Cotillo brings the salt. La Oliva Town Council brings the art. Today, the council is presenting the Sal y Arte Festival through its Department of Culture, headed by David Hernández. The cultural event will take place in the streets of El Cotillo from 8 to 10 October. Visitors will be able to enjoy artistic disciplines including circus, dance, crafts and music, as well as activities such as street parades and stargazing, bringing art in all its forms to the village for the whole family.

The festival will turn the town’s streets into a stage for artists from Fuerteventura and beyond, bringing art to adults and children alike. The programme opens on Thursday 8 October with a screening of Hayao Miyazaki’s “My Neighbor Totoro” as part of the travelling cinema, at 20:00. On Friday 9 October, the Fit Kid performance by Club Deportivo Relevé is at 19:00, followed by the family circus show Circo Picnic, performed by Gema Escobar, at 19:30. The programme then continues with a street parade by Batucada Corumba at 20:15 and the show “Desprovisto” by Cía Uparte at 20:40.

The main day, Saturday 10 October, features the aerial show “Onyria Circus” by Stefi de Bosque Tabaibart at 18:30 and “Baktana” by Compañía Lazuz at 19:30. The village will then be entertained by a street parade with 101 Brass Band – Street Music at 20:10, with a second performance at 22:10, and the dance show “El Amor” by Daniel Navarro at 20:40. The musical performance by local artist Carla Carballo is scheduled for 21:40, while “Twilight Show” by Aerial Espectáculos is at 21:30. The programme concludes at 22:30 with “Dolce Salato” by Cía Carpa Diem.

Stargazing with Astrociencianomada will also be available in Callejón del Risco from 21:00 to 23:00.

La Oliva mayor Isaí Blanco said: “With this 11th edition of the Sal y Arte Festival, we are bringing different artistic disciplines to residents of the municipality. We invite everyone to come and enjoy art in the village of El Cotillo from 8 to 10 October.”

Culture councillor David Hernández said: “Once again, we are launching the street festival in El Cotillo; this year it will be called Sal y Arte. We will kick things off on Thursday with a film screening, showing the anime film ‘My Neighbor Totoro’. Then, on both Friday and Saturday, there will be a range of street performances, including music, dance, clowning, juggling and acrobatics—in short, a whole host of activities to fill the weekend in the village of El Cotillo.”
