Interview with Yoana Garrofé, property professional and owner of Yoalquilo

Property professional and Yoalquilo owner Yoana Garrofé warns that uncertainty is leading property owners, including on Fuerteventura, to sell or impose stricter requirements on tenants. She cautions that these properties are coming onto a market where investors have the advantage “because they can buy today for tomorrow”. Many investors are from other countries and are contributing to the deepening loss of identity in a territory that needs to be cared for. To try to reverse the situation, Garrofé calls, among other measures, for guarantees of rent payment, intervention in the market to prevent abuses, initiatives to protect residents’ access to housing, and for small property owners to be heard too. She points out that they make up the vast majority.
