Interview with Vanesa Frahija, General Secretary of CCOO Canarias

Vanesa Frahija, General Secretary of CCOO Canarias, is calling in Fuerteventura for “the islands to come to a standstill” on 11 November with a general strike to demand solutions to the housing crisis, decent wages and greater social protection. The strike call, promoted by CCOO, UGT and the Tenants’ Union, is gaining support across the islands from other trade unions, including Intersindical Canaria and CGT. Frahija insists, however, that the mobilisation must go beyond union labels and bring together the entire working class. “This is no time for labels,” she warns, as preparations continue for a day that will also include a demonstration in Fuerteventura, scheduled for 17:30 on the day of the strike.
