FIMAPA to hold fifth Community Gathering in Tefía to strengthen parents’ associations and educational projects in Fuerteventura
FIMAPA will hold its fifth Community Gathering in Tefía to strengthen parents’ associations and educational projects in Fuerteventura.
The Federación Insular Majorera de Madres, Padres y Alumnado (FIMAPA) will hold the fifth edition of its Community Gathering on 7 and 8 November. The event aims to improve training for parents’ associations (AMPAs), strengthen educational projects in Fuerteventura and encourage families to take part in the school community.
The event will take place at the Tefía Hostel and will be funded by the Education Department of the Fuerteventura Island Council.
The programme will combine training and social activities, with a focus on topics including health in schools, shared responsibility for care, bullying, education based on affection and boundaries, equality and the use of social media.
There will also be family leisure activities and radio interviews, giving participating AMPAs and educational projects the opportunity to showcase their initiatives through the federation’s communication channels.
Training, social activities and events for families
The programme on Saturday 7 November will begin at 9am with participants’ arrival and the distribution of materials. The first day will focus particularly on training for the island’s AMPAs and educational projects.
The programme includes a talk entitled ‘Caring at School, Growing in Community’, delivered by Diana Jerez Rusta of the Canary Islands Health Service.
The Arena y Laurisilva Women’s Association will lead two training sessions: ‘Supporting without overprotecting: education through affection, boundaries and independence’ and ‘Equality and social media: support in the digital age’.
Sergio Bernasani will lead the activity ‘What did you understand? A fun way to discover how we communicate’, while José Palmer Belda will give a talk entitled ‘Turning pain into strength’.
The day will also feature radio interviews with associations and educational projects wishing to present their initiatives, as well as a family gymkhana organised by the Campamento Los Baifitos team.
The role of families on School Councils
Sunday 8 November will be devoted mainly to parents’ associations, with a particular focus on their participation in the representative bodies of educational centres.
The programme includes a talk on the role of families on School Councils, delivered by Sergio de la Fe, a representative of FAPA Galdós, the federation of AMPAs in Gran Canaria.
The session will run from 9.45am to 11.15am and will also be open to other interested people, not just members of AMPAs.
Accommodation, meals and childcare facilities
To make it easier for families and representatives of educational groups from across Fuerteventura to attend, FIMAPA will provide registered participants with breakfast, lunch, an afternoon snack and dinner, as well as the option of staying overnight at the Tefía Hostel.
Participants will be able to select their dietary requirements to meet their food needs.
The event will also provide a dedicated space for childcare and activities for children and teenagers, allowing adults to attend the training sessions while young people take part in age-appropriate activities.
