Fuerteventura agrees joint action in six European markets at Turespaña Convention 2026

Fuerteventura’s Tourism Board took part this week in the sixth Turespaña Convention, held in Zaragoza from 20 to 22 October under the theme “Do you speak global? International tourism as a driver of transformation”. The convention is Spain’s main annual tourism gathering, organised by Turespaña, bringing together destinations, businesses and institutions to share international promotion strategies. The Board was represented by its vice-president and the Fuerteventura Island Council’s tourism councillor, Marlene Figueroa, and the Board’s managing director.

The Board’s participation focused on bilateral meetings held on 20 October with Spain’s tourism counsellors abroad for Austria, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Sweden. The meetings established lines of action to raise awareness of Fuerteventura as a destination in these source markets, with particular attention to organising familiarisation trips for tourism professionals who could promote the island in their home markets.

The convention also provided an opportunity to strengthen ties with Euskadi, Galicia, Asturias, Andalusia, Madrid and Catalonia, the autonomous communities with which Fuerteventura has direct air links. Possible joint promotional activities were discussed at the meetings, with a view to making the most of these connections and encouraging more visitors to the island.

Marlene Figueroa, the Fuerteventura Island Council’s tourism councillor and vice-president of the Fuerteventura Tourism Board, said: “The Turespaña Convention is a space for direct collaboration with those who know each source market best. Agreeing joint action with tourism counsellors abroad allows us to reach industry professionals more precisely and effectively.”

She also said: “Fuerteventura is committed to qualitative growth, and any action that strengthens the island’s regular air links with European markets is strategic for the destination. That is exactly what we have been working on this week in Zaragoza.”

The contacts made in Zaragoza will allow work with tourism representatives abroad and the autonomous communities to continue, developing promotional activities aimed at Fuerteventura’s source markets.
