Fuerteventura Protagonista launches first Community Nodes in Antigua and Pájara

The Fuerteventura Protagonista project is moving ahead with the launch of Municipal Community Nodes, holding its first information meetings in Antigua and Pájara. The meetings will present the initiatives planned for each municipality and open a space for residents, associations, groups, professionals and local authorities to come together.

The project is promoted by the Social Action, Diversity, LGTBIQ+, Citizen Participation and Open Government Department of the Fuerteventura Island Council, led by Víctor Alonso, in collaboration with the General Foundation of the University of La Laguna (FGULL) and the island’s town councils. It aims to strengthen community participation by fostering connections among those who are part of everyday life in the island’s neighbourhoods and towns, enabling them to share interests, identify existing resources and put forward proposals of shared interest.

The Community Nodes are conceived as open spaces for participation and collaboration, adapted to the circumstances of each municipality. The aim is to help people get to know one another better, share experiences and find new ways to contribute to community life where they live.

First meetings in Antigua and Pájara

The first information meeting about the Nodes will take place in Antigua on Thursday 15 October at 7 pm, at the Antigua Senior Citizens’ Centre on Calle Alcalde Montesdeoca Cabrera. The meeting will present the proposal “Intergenerational exchange around the municipality’s traditional Christmas cuisine”, which aims to recover and share recipes, knowledge and experiences across generations, while recognising the value of local memory and traditions.

In Pájara, the meeting will take place on Friday 16 October at 5 pm at the Morro Jable Youth Centre, at Calle Mascona, number 34. The initiative presented will be the “Pájara Associations Fair”, which aims to bring associations together and showcase their work in the municipality.

Both meetings are open to residents, organisations, groups, professionals and the administration connected with each municipality. The involvement of these different participants will be essential to shaping the initiatives and supporting their development.

An initiative for the island’s six municipalities

Although the initiative is starting in these two municipalities, its rollout is part of a strategy that will extend to Antigua, Betancuria, La Oliva, Pájara, Puerto del Rosario and Tuineje. Further information about planned meetings across the island and opportunities to take part in each municipality will be announced in the coming weeks.

This new phase continues the listening process carried out by Fuerteventura Protagonista and aims to create spaces where identified perceptions, proposals and capabilities can be brought together and lead to new shared initiatives.

The Nodes are therefore intended to help people who live and take part in each municipality find opportunities to get involved, strengthen their connections and contribute to improving life in their communities.
