Gran Tarajal to host a new edition of ‘Fuerteventura on the Move Against Cancer’ this Sunday

Gran Tarajal will once again become a meeting point for solidarity this Sunday, 18 October, with a new edition of ‘Fuerteventura on the Move Against Cancer’. The initiative aims to raise awareness of the fight against the disease, promote healthy lifestyles and raise funds to support patients and their families on the island.

The event, organised by the Spanish Association Against Cancer in Fuerteventura and Tuineje Town Council, will begin at 10:30 am in Tran Tran Square and will offer several ways to take part, making it accessible to people of all ages.

All proceeds will go towards maintaining the free services the association provides to patients and their families in Fuerteventura, as well as supporting cancer research.

Cancer association has supported 287 people in Fuerteventura during 2026

One of the key figures highlighted at the launch was the support provided by the Spanish Association Against Cancer on the island.

So far in 2026, the organisation has supported 287 people in Fuerteventura: 216 cancer patients and 71 family members.

A further 96 of the patients supported have been diagnosed with breast cancer, a figure of particular significance during October, which is dedicated to raising awareness of the disease.

Isabel Laucirica, president of the Spanish Association Against Cancer in Fuerteventura, highlighted the importance of public participation in ensuring the association can continue its free support and care services.

She also noted that the funds raised would help drive research, which she described as essential to improving treatments, increasing survival rates and enhancing the quality of life of those affected.

Races, a charity walk and activities for the whole family

The event will offer three ways to take part, suited to different ages and levels of fitness.

The main race will cover three kilometres and is open to participants aged 12 and over.

There will also be a one-kilometre children’s race for those aged between 7 and 11, while the charity walk is open to people of all ages.

Alongside the sporting events, the programme will include Zumba sessions and other entertainment, creating an opportunity for families to spend the day together.

Also known as the ‘Race and Walk for Hope Against Breast Cancer’, the initiative aims to bring the people of Fuerteventura together around a shared goal: showing support for those living with the disease and helping improve the resources available for their care.

Ten years of solidarity in Fuerteventura

The latest edition was presented on Wednesday, 14 October, with the participation of Víctor Alonso, the Fuerteventura Island Council’s social welfare councillor; Tuineje mayor David Herrera; municipal councillor Dulce García; and Isabel Laucirica, president of the Spanish Association Against Cancer in Fuerteventura.

At the event, representatives highlighted the importance of continued cooperation between public authorities, social organisations and the public in advancing cancer prevention, care and research.

They also praised the commitment shown by the people of Fuerteventura over the past ten years, with the event now established as a fixture in the island’s calendar of charitable events.

Organisers hope to bring hundreds of participants to Gran Tarajal once again for a day combining sport, awareness-raising and support for people affected by the disease.

Registration open until Friday, 16 October

Anyone wishing to take part can register until 7 pm on Friday, 16 October, via the event’s official website:

The Spanish Association Against Cancer is encouraging the public to join the event, noting that every registration directly helps maintain support and care for patients and their families in Fuerteventura.

The event is sponsored by 001 Hotels Higos Beach Boutique, with support from Fuerteventura Island Council, Padilla Supermercados SPAR, Prevención y Autoprotección RD, the Fuerteventura Island Athletics Federation, Salvafuer and Coka Sports.

With this latest edition, Gran Tarajal will once again host a day in which sport and public participation support solidarity and cancer research.
