Neuromajo’s Letter Race visits all six municipalities of Fuerteventura, with 18 teams taking part

The 2026–2027 Neuromajo season has begun with the Letter Race, a cognitive stimulation and mental agility challenge that, for the first time, was held separately from the main competition weekend.

The event visited all six municipalities of Fuerteventura between 2 and 8 October, bringing together participants from across the island in an initiative combining mental exercise, socialising and active ageing.

During the Letter Race, participants took on a range of challenges designed to exercise their memory and concentration, and their ability to solve logical and linguistic problems.

A project promoting active ageing and socialising

Neuromajo is an initiative led by the Fuerteventura Island Council’s Department for Social Action and the Neurolímpica Association, with the involvement of all six town councils on the island.

This year, Padilla Supermercados Spar, Grupo Barceló and Dany Sport have also joined the initiative through collaboration agreements.

Beyond the sporting results, the project aims to encourage older people’s social participation, help prevent loneliness, strengthen camaraderie and recognise the value of their life experience.

The season features a total of 18 teams from the six municipalities of Fuerteventura.

In Antigua, the teams are Las Elegidas and Imparables; in Betancuria, Virgen de la Peña; and in La Oliva, Las Guirre, Las Lobas and La Tahona.

Pájara is represented by L@s Atrevid@s, Cofete, Faro, Amigos de Pájara, Pájara se Mueve and Playas de Pájara.

In Puerto del Rosario, the teams are Las Apañás, Las Baifas, Maxopuerto and Los Picarones, while Tuineje has Camellito and Las Moriscas.

Caleta de Fuste to host the opening parade on 16 October

Following the Letter Race, the Neuromajo programme will continue on Friday 16 October with the opening parade, scheduled to start at 17:00 in Caleta de Fuste, in the municipality of Antigua.

The main competition will take place on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October at Playitas Sports Resort, starting at 10:30.

Qualifying rounds, finals and the closing ceremony will be held over the two days.

The programme will conclude in February 2027 with the NeuroMajo 2026 Gala, to be held at the Fuerteventura Conference and Training Centre in Puerto del Rosario, recognising the teams’ efforts and participation during the season.

Island Council highlights the commitment of participants and partners

Fuerteventura Island Council President Lola García and Social Action Councillor Víctor Alonso have expressed their satisfaction at Neuromajo’s continued success and older people’s involvement in this new edition.

They thanked the activity leaders, the Neurolímpica Association, the six town councils, the partner organisations and all the participants who make the initiative possible.

The island administration stressed the importance of continuing projects that promote an active life for older people in Fuerteventura, combining cognitive stimulation with opportunities to meet, participate and socialise.
