Civil Guard arrests ‘Batman’ over break-in at Corralejo shop
The suspect, wearing a Batman mask to conceal their face, allegedly entered the premises after smashing the glass in the door and stole the till, which contained around €500.
The Civil Guard’s Las Palmas Command has arrested a person suspected of committing a burglary at a shop in Corralejo, Fuerteventura.
The incident took place in the early hours of 12 August, when the Operational Services Centre (COS) received a report of a possible break-in at a shop on Poseidón Street in Corralejo.
A Civil Guard patrol went to the premises and found damage to the entrance door and one side of the building, consistent with entry through broken glass. Officers also found that the till, containing around €500, had been stolen. The material damage was initially valued at €750.
Officers’ enquiries gave them access to footage from the shop’s security cameras. It showed a person with their face covered by a Batman mask and wearing distinctive clothing, including black boots, ochre-coloured trousers and a black hooded sweatshirt.
Using the information obtained and their immediate enquiries, officers located a person wearing clothing that matched what was seen in the footage. Further evidence gathered during the investigation allegedly linked the person to the incident.
The detainee then led officers to the place where they had hidden the mask used during the break-in, as well as the hammer allegedly used to smash the shop’s glass. The stolen till was also recovered, along with €253 of the money it contained.
The person was arrested in connection with the incident and brought before the duty court in Puerto del Rosario.
