Guardia Civil arrests four men over a home invasion and brutal beating of a resident in Caleta de Fuste

Guardia Civil in Fuerteventura has arrested four men on suspicion of involvement in a violent robbery and assault on a couple living in a semi-derelict complex in Caleta de Fuste, in the municipality of Antigua.

The incident took place during the night of 1 October, while the victims were asleep in their home. Guardia Civil said on Tuesday, 27 October, that a group of six men forced their way into the property after kicking down the front door.

Once inside, the attackers violently assaulted the man, causing serious injuries. Before leaving, they stole several mobile phones and cash.

The victims required urgent medical attention from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC). Its staff took them to Fuerteventura General Hospital for specialist treatment.

Some of the suspected attackers lived in the same complex

After learning of the incident, Guardia Civil launched an investigation that enabled officers to identify the six people suspected of taking part in the attack.

Investigators noted that some of the suspects lived in the same complex where the assault and robbery took place.

Using information gathered during the investigation, officers mounted an operation to locate and arrest those under investigation.

Police operation involving the new USECI unit

On 16 October, Guardia Civil carried out a large-scale operation in Caleta de Fuste, in collaboration with the Citizen Security Unit (USECI), a recently established intervention unit in Fuerteventura.

The operation led to the simultaneous arrest of four of those under investigation, who were found at their respective homes.

The arrested men are under investigation on suspicion of violent robbery and assault.

Investigation remains open

After the relevant police proceedings had been completed, the case was referred to the competent judicial authority.

Guardia Civil has confirmed that the investigation remains open and that further arrests linked to the attack have not been ruled out.

So far, the force has reported four arrests among the six people identified as suspected participants. It has not specified the status of the other two people under investigation or what judicial measures, if any, have been taken in relation to those arrested.
