Civil Guard solves six burglaries at a hotel complex in Fuerteventura

The Civil Guard’s Las Palmas Command has solved six offences against property committed in several apartments at a hotel complex in Costa Calma.

The investigation began after several complaints were filed by tourists staying at the establishment. They said that while they were at the hotel buffet during mealtimes, someone entered their apartments and stole money, electronic devices and various personal belongings.

The suspected perpetrator took advantage of guests being away from their rooms to enter through terrace doors that had been left open or through windows, using a similar method in the different incidents under investigation.

Across the six offences solved, the stolen cash amounted to €1,470, £150 and 700 Czech korunas. Two computers, a tablet, two mobile phones and a Nintendo Switch console were also stolen, with an approximate value of €5,000, along with other personal belongings valued at around €430.

The Investigation Unit at Morro Jable Main Post began making enquiries after establishing that the incidents had taken place in the same area and followed a similar modus operandi.

Investigators analysed footage from the hotel complex’s video surveillance systems and cross-checked the information gathered during the investigation against static surveillance measures put in place during the time slots when the incidents took place.

The enquiries enabled officers to identify and locate the suspected perpetrator, who was subsequently arrested on suspicion of responsibility for the six offences under investigation.

The officers’ swift action led to the recovery of some of the stolen electronic devices. Efforts are continuing to locate and recover the remaining items.

The investigation remains open, and further action related to these incidents has not been ruled out.

The arrested woman, together with the case file prepared by the Civil Guard, was placed at the disposal of the investigating court on duty in Puerto del Rosario.
