La Oliva wraps up second World Animal Day event to a warm reception
La Oliva has wrapped up the second edition of World Animal Day, which was warmly received.
The municipality of La Oliva has concluded the second edition of World Animal Day, held on 2 and 3 October at Corralejo Dog Park and organised by La Oliva Town Council through its Public Health Department, headed by Christian Rodríguez.
The event brought together hundreds of participants over two days, with activities tailored to the educational community and the general public, focusing on animal welfare, respect and responsible pet ownership.
A first day dedicated to schoolchildren
The programme began on Friday with a day exclusively for the municipality’s schools.
Pupils took part in a range of educational stations and interactive activities, including “Fuerteventura Tracks”, “Curious Facts about Native Animals” and “The Animal Welfare Traffic Light”.
A participatory wall was also set up under the slogan “A wish that leaves a pawprint”, where attendees could write down their messages and reflections.
Activities for dogs and families on Saturday
On Saturday, Corralejo Dog Park opened its activities to the general public, with a programme aimed especially at families and people accompanied by their pets.
The day included swimming pools for dogs, connection groups, personalised canine advice, an adoption showcase, talks on neighbourhood coexistence and various stimulation games for dogs.
La Oliva Mayor Isaí Blanco highlighted the importance of initiatives of this kind.
“This event demonstrates our municipality’s firm commitment to protecting and respecting animals,” he said.
Public Health Councillor Christian Rodríguez thanked the educational community, families and groups who took part in the event.
“We would like to thank all those who joined us for this celebration, as well as the teachers, pupils, families and groups who attended during the day,” he said.
Prizes and gift vouchers redeemable at veterinary clinics in the municipality were also awarded by the organisers.
“Initiatives like this strengthen our commitment to animal welfare and responsible pet ownership in our community,” Rodríguez added.
Thanks to supporting organisations
The Public Health Department also thanked the organisations and departments that helped deliver this second edition of World Animal Day.
They included Salchiquedadas Canarias, Mundo Maxcotas, the Department of Citizen Participation and Gesplan.
With these two days of activities, La Oliva concluded another edition of an initiative designed to promote animal welfare and responsible pet ownership among schoolchildren and families across the municipality.
