Pájara unveils RallySprint Pájara-Cardón, the first asphalt rally held in the municipality
Pájara unveils RallySprint Pájara-Cardón, the first asphalt rally held in the municipality.
Pájara Town Council unveiled RallySprint Pájara-Cardón on Tuesday. The asphalt event marks the municipality’s return to the island’s motor racing calendar after several years away and will take place next Saturday, 15 August, running from the Sicasumbre viewpoint to Tamaretilla.
Sports Councillor José Benito Alonso thanked the Canary Islands Automobile Federation and its Las Palmas provincial branch for their cooperation. “Motor racing is returning to the municipality, and what better way to mark the occasion than with its first asphalt rally,” he said.
Acting Mayor Kathaisa Rodríguez said: “This is a clear example of the wonderful projects that can emerge when public institutions and their teams join forces.” She also highlighted the role of Clubs Unidos de Fuerteventura, “which has backed the decision to stage this sporting event in the town of Cardón”.
First Deputy Mayor Alexis Alonso said that “thanks to the work of the Sports Department, Pájara is once again hosting an event of this kind after 20 years. It brings together elite athletes and drivers,” he noted.
Carmen Alonso, Councillor for Planning and Strategic Projects, added: “We are bringing back one of Fuerteventura’s most important motor racing events and firmly putting Pájara back on the automotive calendar.”
Ernesto Suárez, representing Clubs Unidos, said that 35 teams would compete in the municipality’s first sporting event of this kind. He invited motor racing fans to make sure they did not miss the start of the race.
Boosting Pájara’s sporting programme
The event will be the second to take place in Fuerteventura in 2026. It will count towards the Canary Islands and Las Palmas Provincial Asphalt RallySprint Championships, as well as Fuerteventura’s SuperCopa A/T island championship, making it one of the island’s most significant sporting events of the summer.
With RallySprint Pájara-Cardón, the municipality is rejoining the Canary Islands motor racing scene, strengthening Pájara’s sporting programme and adding an asphalt race to Fuerteventura’s calendar. The event is part of the island’s motor racing history.
The presentation also highlighted the joint work by Pájara Town Council, Escudería Maxo Sport and the other institutions and organisations involved in bringing back an event eagerly anticipated by drivers, teams and fans.
