‘Sabor a Castillo’ returns to Caleta de Fuste for three days of food, music and activities for everyone
‘Sabor a Castillo’ returns to Caleta de Fuste for three days of food, music and activities for everyone.
The international food fair ‘Sabor a Castillo’ returns to Caleta de Fuste this weekend for a new edition running from 2 to 4 October. The event, organised by the El Castillo Business Association (AECA), is funded by the Trade Department of Fuerteventura Island Council and supported by Antigua Town Council.
Over three days, ‘Sabor a Castillo’ will offer a programme combining food, music, workshops, dancing and activities for different audiences, with events centred on flavours from around the world and on bringing activity to El Castillo’s commercial area.
AECA president Eduard Van Der Veen stressed the importance of “events like this being able to go ahead, because they are very important for the sector in El Castillo”, and thanked Fuerteventura Island Council and Antigua Town Council for their support. He also encouraged residents and visitors to come along and enjoy the fair throughout the weekend.
Fuerteventura Island Council president Lola García said that “Sabor a Castillo is now an established event and an example of citizen participation and our island’s cultural richness”, highlighting its growth and the collaboration of residents, associations and organisations. She also emphasised that the fair “is about much more than flavours from around the world; it is a platform for boosting the local economy and local trade, which sustains many families and is the foundation of economic activity in Fuerteventura”, and reiterated the Council’s commitment to reviving commercial activity through its various support schemes.
Trade councillor Lolina Negrín invited the public to take part in this new edition of ‘Sabor a Castillo’, a fair that “is being held thanks to the work of AECA, in collaboration with Antigua Town Council and the Trade Department of Fuerteventura Island Council”. Negrín noted that the programme includes “activities for the whole family” and said the event was an opportunity to help bring activity to El Castillo’s commercial area.
Antigua Town Council’s trade councillor, Guiseppe Signorino, said the third edition of ‘Sabor a Castillo’ was the result of AECA’s work to bring activity to the resort area. He added that cooperation between the different administrations “shows that by working together we can achieve important things” to improve activity and help make the event a success.
Also present at the opening was Isabel Lauciria, president of the Spanish Association Against Cancer in Fuerteventura. The organisation will take part in the fair with various information and prevention activities.
Food, music and activities for everyone
The programme began on the afternoon of Friday 2 October with the opening of the fair, a live cooking demonstration and a range of musical events, including performances by Kevin Archer and Alma Rebelde, who will help launch ‘Sabor a Castillo’.
Saturday 3 October will be the fair’s main day, with activities for children, zumba, salsa, bachata and sevillanas workshops, demonstrations, live music and a cooking show. The day will combine food and entertainment for different audiences and will also feature artists and groups including Grupo K.Libre, Batucada Calemba and La Banda del Cuco.
Sunday 4 October, the final day, will be especially geared towards families, with a children’s cooking workshop, another live music performance and the closing events.
Over the three days, ‘Sabor a Castillo’ will feature food stalls and activities centred on flavours from around the world, reinforcing its international character and its aim of bringing activity to El Castillo and the surrounding area.
A programme for the whole family
New features this year also include activities specifically for children, such as ‘Le Petit Chef’ and ‘¡Hoy soy pastelero!’, which will take place over the weekend.
The organisers are encouraging residents and visitors to come to El Castillo and take part in the activities scheduled over the three days.
