Luna, Jimena, Adriana, Lucía, Sofía and Cathaysa, members of the Canary Islands Pole Sport and Aerial Disciplines Association, are taking on one of the most important events of their sporting careers, accompanied by their coach, Laura García González.

The competition will take place from 11 to 14 November in the South Korean capital and will feature athletes who have qualified from different countries, with a maximum of three representatives per country in each category, the coach told La Voz de Fuerteventura.

The Canary Islands Pole Sport Association qualified athletes in several categories: Junior A Amateur, Junior A Competitive, Junior B Competitive and Junior Mix Doubles.

Four gold medals and a silver at the Spanish Championship

The young athletes from Fuerteventura are heading to the World Championship after achieving excellent results at the Spanish Championship in Salamanca, where they won four gold medals and one silver.

These results secured their places at the international event and confirmed the level reached by the Fuerteventura school, which was also named Best School at the 2026 Spanish Championship, based on the overall scores achieved by its participants.

Laura García González was also named Best Coach at the national championship, in recognition of her work preparing and training the athletes.

For years, the coach has helped develop the sport in Fuerteventura, nurturing young athletes who compete in different categories and have made their mark at national championships.

Fuerteventura, a leading force in Pole Sport

Laura García’s career in sport on Fuerteventura began in 2012. A year later, she founded Club Deportivo de Gimnasia Acalia, where she has carried out extensive sports training work.

Her commitment to Pole Sport has introduced girls and young women to a discipline that demands strength, flexibility, coordination, technique and artistic expression.

In June this year, the Canary Islands Pole Sport Association had 85 athletes aged between 5 and 17, building a growing pool of talent that has achieved results in various competitions.

The school has taken part in championships across Spain and helped put Fuerteventura on the national map in this discipline.

This growth will continue in 2027, when Fuerteventura hosts the Spanish Championship in Pole Sport and Aerial Disciplines organised by the POSA International Federation, the coach said in an interview with La Voz de Fuerteventura.

Now the focus is on the five young athletes who have set off for South Korea. After months of training and preparation, they will have the chance to compete against representatives from other countries and showcase the level Fuerteventura’s athletes have reached on the world stage.

La Voz de Fuerteventura wishes them every success.
