One third of AMF’s island executive breaks ranks with president, calls extraordinary meeting to demand answers over Fuerteventura Island Council candidacy

One third of the members of the Island Executive Committee of Asambleas Municipales de Fuerteventura (AMF) has called an extraordinary, urgent meeting to discuss the party’s candidacy for the Fuerteventura Island Council and its representation in the “Por Fuerteventura” electoral alliance.

The meeting will now be held in La Oliva at 18:00 on Friday, rather than at 21:00 on Wednesday 21 October at the Antigua Casino, as originally planned, because of the pre-alert for rain.

The organisers cite Article 26.4 b of the party’s statutes as the basis for the meeting. According to the document, it allows one third of the committee’s members to call a meeting.

The first item on the agenda seeks explanations from president Juan Nicolás Cabrera Saavedra about what the organisers consider to be his self-proclamation as a candidate for the Fuerteventura Island Council, and about his statements on Onda Fuerteventura on Monday 19 October, whose accuracy they question.

The meeting notice proposes that the committee refuse to recognise Juan Nicolás Cabrera Saavedra as the candidate and select a new candidate for the Fuerteventura Island Council. The organisers are thus placing the debate and decision on AMF’s candidacy before the island’s governing body.

The agenda also includes a proposal to remove Cabrera Saavedra as AMF’s spokesperson in the “Por Fuerteventura” electoral alliance and to elect a new representative.

Any resolutions adopted by the committee will be conveyed to the members of the alliance. The meeting will conclude with the reading and approval of the minutes, as set out in the final item on the agenda.

These proposals remain subject to debate and a vote at the extraordinary meeting.
