Arena Negra opens with its biggest-ever Friday turnout
Arena Negra continues this Saturday, 7 November, with a new day of concerts featuring Los Secretos, Luis Fonsi, Delaossa and Lauta. The programme will also include Arena Negra by Day, bringing five musical acts to Gran Tarajal: Timbeque, ContraVentura, Andrea Rodríguez and Banda del Trópico, NIA, and Kilombo Improvisado.
Gran Tarajal beach became a meeting point for live music on Friday as the first day of the 2026 Arena Negra Festival drew its biggest Friday audience in the festival’s history. Thousands of people enjoyed a night bringing together different generations and musical styles, from pop and songs that form part of the collective memory to urban and electronic sounds that got the crowd dancing.
Singer Merche opened the concert programme with a selection of some of the best-known songs from her career, which spans more than twenty years. The artist from Cádiz, who continues to bring audiences her greatest hits and more recent work on the “Abre tu Mente, Ahora” tour, launched a night marked by musical diversity. During her set, she also invited several audience members on stage to share moments of the concert with her, making for an intimate and participatory performance.
Rosana followed with her singer-songwriter pop, combining sensitivity and individuality with an international career that has included more than 3,000 concerts. The Lanzarote-born artist, much-loved by audiences across her archipelago, returned to a place she feels close to and where she enjoys a special affection, which was clear throughout the concert. One of the night’s most special moments came when she invited Gran Tarajal’s Timbaye batucada group on stage, adding the local ensemble’s rhythm and energy to her performance.
Álvaro de Luna took over on stage after midnight with his pop and rock. He surprised the audience with a dramatic introduction before a particularly significant performance: Gran Tarajal was the venue he had chosen to bring his tour to a close. One of the most recognisable voices in Spain’s recent music scene, he combines both styles in a sound that has connected with a range of audiences, sustaining the night’s intensity at one of the festival’s most eagerly anticipated moments.
Juan Magán brought the concerts to a close. One of the leading figures in urban and Latin music and the creator of electrolatino, the producer, DJ, composer and singer turned his performance into an invitation to dance. A blend of Latin rhythms and electronic sounds brought the first day of Arena Negra to a close and kept the crowd’s energy up until the very end.
From 7.30pm, Óscar Martínez, DJ and LOS40 radio presenter, opened the day, kept the music going during stage changes and closed the programme with his sets. Fuerteventura-born actress Mariam Hernández hosted the festival, bringing a distinctly Fuerteventura touch to the stage.
