The event is organised by the Fuerteventura Island Council’s Department of Culture, with artistic coordination by Domingo Rodríguez ‘El Colorao’.
Fuerteventura’s National Timple Gathering will feature four concerts from Thursday 22 to Sunday 25 October in the Symphony Hall at Fuerteventura’s Conference and Training Centre, bringing audiences a range of musical performances centred on the instrument and its place in Canarian culture.
The programme opens on Thursday 22 October at 8.30 pm with Pino&Pino. In their concerts, Pino&Pino present the charango, a stringed instrument of Latin American origin related to the timple, alongside pieces from the Andean tradition, contemporary music and works from the Spanish Baroque. Their repertoire draws on a range of musical influences and has been recognised by audiences and critics in countries including France, Belgium, Italy, Germany, Bolivia, Chile and Argentina.
On Friday 23 October at 9 pm, Domingo ‘El Colorao’ will present ‘SURCO’, a show paying tribute to the roots of traditional Canarian music. Following the success of ‘Aulaga’ and ‘Jable’, the acclaimed timple player from Fuerteventura brings together masters of musical tradition and young talent in a performance that combines the essence of folk wisdom with new arrangements, the freshness of its performers and a forward-looking perspective.
On Saturday 24 October at 9 pm, Pedro Ageno will perform ‘Molinos de Paso’, a musical project born from a meeting of friends with shared interests and a desire to share their own compositions. Starting from the timple and a personal perspective, the project creates a space for dialogue between musicians. The line-up includes Gabriel Rodríguez on flute, Adán Moreno on guitar, Fernando Angulo on drums and Ayla Rodríguez on vocals, as well as Pedro Ageno on timple and Marta Rosa on percussion. The project moves between roots music and elements associated with jazz.
The series concludes on Sunday 25 October at 8 pm with Trío de Raíz, featuring Alberto González on timple, Gabriel Rodríguez on flute and Manuel Cerpa on guitar. The group takes Canarian folk music and the timple as its roots and anchor, exploring new soundscapes and engaging with other musical forms. Its repertoire incorporates flamenco, with the guitar as an instrument of tradition and renewal, reinterpreting different styles from its own perspective.
All concerts are free, with tickets available by prior reservation through ecoentradas.com.
The timple as a meeting point for music
The four concerts are part of the programme for the 3rd National Timple Gathering, which takes place in Fuerteventura from 22 to 25 October. It includes training activities, exhibitions, book launches, talks and forums reflecting on the instrument’s present and future.
Through this initiative, the Fuerteventura Island Council continues to promote the timple as part of Canarian musical heritage, encouraging artists to come together, knowledge to be passed on, and the instrument to reach new generations and creative projects.
