PP welcomes Fuerteventura’s best June in seven years, with 5,512 people unemployed and a record number of self-employed workers
512 unemployed people and a record number of self-employed workers.
Fuerteventura’s People’s Party (PP) has welcomed the June unemployment figures, saying they confirm sustained economic growth and the creation of new job opportunities on the island.
At the end of the month, the total number of unemployed people stood at 5,512, down 0.3% on the previous month and 4.1% compared with June 2025.
PP MP Fernando Enseñat highlighted the importance of the figures for Fuerteventura’s society and economy, noting that the island had recorded its best June in the past seven years.
“We are not looking at an unusual figure, but a trend that is becoming more firmly established month by month. Since the start of the legislative term in May 2023, unemployment has fallen by 936 people, demonstrating the effectiveness of the PP’s management in the Canary Islands Government,” he said.
Unemployment fell across all age groups compared with the previous year, declining by 2.1% among under-25s and by a notable 5.2% among people aged over 45. This group accounts for 56.10% of all unemployed people on the island.
By gender, male unemployment fell by 4.9% year on year to 2,334, while female unemployment was down 3.4%, with 3,178 women out of work.
Enseñat also highlighted Social Security figures, which showed 50,450 people registered, up 2.3% year on year and representing 1,150 more jobs than a year earlier.
The Fuerteventura MP said the success was directly attributable “to a strategy to promote economic improvement and create opportunities in every area where the People’s Party is involved in government”.
He highlighted the work of the Department of Tourism and Employment, led by Fuerteventura-born Jéssica de León, which is implementing active employment policies tailored to the island through the Canary Islands Employment Service.
Enseñat also praised the work of the Department of Economy, Industry, Trade and Self-Employment, led by the president of the Canary Islands’ People’s Party, Manuel Domínguez.
With his direct backing, strategic measures such as the Self-Employed Support Plan, the introduction of the Zero Fee scheme and the Consumer Voucher “are giving entrepreneurship in Fuerteventura a decisive boost”. The island has reached a record 9,685 self-employed workers, up 3.25% year on year and 1,240 more than in May 2023.
“We are firmly supporting those who drive our economy and create stable jobs in Fuerteventura and across the Canary Islands,” he concluded.
