New Employment Opportunities 2025 programme concludes successfully

The Fuerteventura Training and Conference Centre hosted the closing ceremony of the New Employment Opportunities 2025 programme on Thursday. A total of 23 people, including recent university and vocational training graduates, as well as members of the coordinating and administrative team, worked for a year across the various areas of the Fuerteventura Island Council.

At the closing ceremony, Fuerteventura Island Council president Lola García, Canary Islands Government tourism and employment councillor Jessica de León, and island councillor for employment promotion Nuria Cabrera thanked the participants for their work.

They were joined by Director-General for Labour José Ramón Rodríguez, Puerto del Rosario Town Council employment councillor Erica González and Antigua Town Council employment councillor Victoria Cerdeña, as well as education councillor Adargoma Hernández and other members of the Island Council.

The New Employment Opportunities 2025 programme represents an investment of €1,090,202.23. It is co-funded by the Canary Islands Employment Service, which contributes €586,729.50, and the European Social Fund Plus, under the ESF+ Canary Islands 2021–2027 programme, with a total co-financing rate of 85%. It falls under priorities 4 (employment, adaptability, entrepreneurship and the social economy) and 5 (youth employment). In addition to this co-funding, the project’s non-subsidisable portion is co-funded by the Fuerteventura Island Council, which contributes €503,472.73, and the Canary Islands Government through Canary Islands Development Fund (FDCAN) resources.

Participants worked in areas including human resources, culture, sport, education and youth, employment, IT, social services, spatial planning, the Juan Ismael Art Centre, Fuerteventura Museums, the Fuerteventura Archaeological Museum and the Island Council’s autonomous bodies, including the Island Water Council and the Tourism Board.

Participants and their tutors outlined the work carried out and described the programme as rewarding, as it gives young recent graduates their first work experience in public administration.
