Fuerteventura Avanza accuses CC and PSOE of ‘deceit’ over rental assistance in Puerto del Rosario
The political group warns that “if you apply this year, they leave you in the lurch the next”, and accuses the ruling group of ignoring its political responsibility to honour agreements unanimously approved by the municipal plenary. Spokesperson Peña Armas has called on the housing councillor to make an “immediate” correction to rules that “punish Puerto del Rosario’s most vulnerable families”.
The group recalls that a year ago, in October 2025, the municipal plenary unanimously approved a motion by Fuerteventura Avanza to remove the clause barring people who had received the rental assistance in the previous two years from applying again. The provision was a trap that left more than 230 families without support. At that meeting, housing councillor Fernández Aragón herself acknowledged that the criterion was “excessively restrictive” and promised to address it.
A “trap” that condemns vulnerable families
A year later, the promise has come to nothing, the group says.
It says that in the 2026 rules, CC and PSOE have not removed the restriction; “they have simply softened it by reducing it to one year”. This means that any low-income family receiving rental assistance in 2026 “will automatically be penalised and unable to apply in 2027”.
“Agreements reached at the plenary must be honoured as a matter of political responsibility,” Fuerteventura Avanza stresses, adding that a family’s financial hardship “does not magically disappear from one year to the next”.
In Armas’s view, “it is enormously insensitive for David de Vera’s government and its housing councillor to leave families in the lurch every other year”.
Fuerteventura Avanza is therefore calling on Puerto del Rosario Town Council to act responsibly, honour what was agreed at the plenary, amend the rules immediately and permanently remove “any time-based ban that prevents families in Puerto del Rosario from exercising their right to decent housing”.
