Fuerteventura excluded from €0.20-per-litre fuel subsidy taking effect today
Fuel is cheaper in Fuerteventura than in Gran Canaria and Tenerife, leaving the island outside the extraordinary fuel subsidy for the final quarter of 2026. 20-per-litre subsidy will apply in El Hierro, La Palma and La Gomera from October to December.
An Order published on Thursday, 1 October, in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands uses prices recorded between 1 July and 15 September 2026 as its reference. During that period, the average price in Fuerteventura was €1.422 per litre, based on an average of €1.398 for 95-octane petrol and €1.446 for diesel A.
The combined average used as a reference for Gran Canaria and Tenerife was €1.466 per litre. According to the official calculations, Fuerteventura’s price differential was therefore -€0.044 — around 4.4 cents less per litre than on the capital islands. That result excludes it from the subsidy.
The situation is different on the three eligible islands. La Gomera’s price was 23.5 cents higher, El Hierro’s 22.8 cents higher and La Palma’s 18.7 cents higher than the average for Gran Canaria and Tenerife. All three will receive a subsidy of 20 cents per litre during the fourth quarter.
Lanzarote is also excluded, although its average price of €1.491 was 2.5 cents higher than on the capital islands.
The measure will remain in force throughout October, November and December 2026.
