imagin takes financial education into schools with second edition of ‘Finance in the Classroom’

imagin, CaixaBank’s digital bank, has launched the second edition of ‘Finance in the Classroom’, a programme designed to introduce basic financial education concepts to young people aged 12 to 17 at schools across the country.

The initiative aims to help students better understand money management and develop healthy financial habits from an early age.

‘Finance in the Classroom’ is delivered through a free digital platform that gives teachers access to the content and allows them to incorporate it into lessons in a practical way.

The course covers topics including budgeting, saving, cybersecurity, entrepreneurship, responsible consumption and the circular economy.

The content is presented through an immersive, gamified experience designed to help young people learn financial concepts through age-appropriate activities.

Registration open and national competition

Registration for the second edition is now open through imaginAcademy.

Registered schools can also enter a national competition until 9 April. Students will work in teams to create an infographic showcasing what they have learned during the programme.

Participating students, teachers and classes can win a range of prizes, from technology devices to a trip to Barcelona to attend the awards ceremony.

The programme is part of imaginAcademy, through which imagin runs initiatives to improve young people’s financial skills by providing knowledge they can apply to everyday life and future projects.

The initiative also includes educational content on imagin’s digital channels and projects such as ‘El podcast de final de mes’, hosted by Miki Núñez, in which guests explain how they manage their personal finances.

More than 9,000 students took part in the first edition

More than 9,000 students from 330 schools across Spain took part in the first edition of ‘Finance in the Classroom’.

In the Canary Islands, 233 students from eight schools took part, introducing students across the Archipelago to concepts related to financial education.

The results of the first edition identified several areas for improvement among young people. Before taking the course, more than a third of participants said they managed their money impulsively and without prior planning.

A significant proportion also associated saving mainly with being able to make purchases in the future, without sufficiently considering its value in helping them deal with potential unexpected expenses.

The programme also identified gaps in basic knowledge of payment methods and limited consideration of social and environmental factors when making consumer choices.

After completing the programme, participants showed greater awareness of the importance of planning their finances, setting long-term savings goals, understanding different payment tools and adopting more responsible and sustainable consumption habits, according to the initiative’s findings.

Financial education for the next generation

‘Finance in the Classroom’ is part of imagin’s strategy to promote financial education among young people.

The digital bank, backed by CaixaBank, has four million customers, most of them under 35, and offers an entirely digital service combining banking products with initiatives related to financial education, entrepreneurship and social impact.

Through imaginTeens, its offering specifically for teenagers aged 12 to 17, it serves nearly 600,000 customers and provides products and features tailored to this age group.
