La Oliva Youth promotes entrepreneurship among young people in the municipality
La Oliva Youth is encouraging young people in the municipality to develop their entrepreneurial skills.
Creativity, independence and an entrepreneurial spirit: these are the qualities that La Oliva Town Council, through its Department for Youth, is fostering among students on vocational training courses and in the first and second years of Bachillerato at the municipality’s secondary schools through the ‘La Oliva emprende’ initiative. A total of 250 students will receive mentoring to develop a business project on any subject they choose, with their imagination as the only limit.
In a series of sessions running from September to December at IES Corralejo and IES La Oliva, the young people will attend talks designed to develop the skills associated with entrepreneurship. These include critical thinking, problem-solving, confidence, resilience in learning from mistakes, public speaking and presenting ideas, planning and resource management, independence and decision-making. These skills will be essential not only in getting their business proposals off the ground, but will also serve as tools for managing different aspects of their adult lives.
With ongoing support from a technical specialist, the young people will develop their business ideas from September to November. They will then meet for a final event on 18 December at the Corralejo Municipal Auditorium.
At the event, they will present their proposals, and the best business idea will receive a €3,000 prize grant to help launch the venture.
The three finalists will also receive mentoring and ongoing training, have an audiovisual piece produced and a professional profile created, and benefit from networking with local businesspeople and promotion by the local council.
La Oliva Mayor Isaí Blanco said: “This is a unique opportunity to encourage an entrepreneurial spirit among our young people. Participants will be able to let their imaginations run free, supported by entrepreneurs with successful track records and technical staff. The aim is not only to support the ideas of the next generation, but also to show young people the opportunities available as they plan their professional futures, opening their minds to new paths in working life.”
The initiative reflects the local government’s commitment to fostering creativity and entrepreneurship among young people in the municipality.
