No Tran Tran International Clown Festival in 2026

Equipo Chanita says it tried “until the very end” and attributes the cancellation to “decisions and circumstances” that are “beyond our control”.

The Tran Tran International Clown Festival will not take place in Gran Tarajal this year. The announcement was made by the Equipo Chanita Association of Volunteers, which says it worked until the last moment to try to keep one of Fuerteventura’s most emblematic cultural events going.

“We tried until the very end,” the team says in a statement, explaining that behind every effort “there is a team that gave everything it had so this festival could continue”.

The association has not specified the reasons for the cancellation, but points to factors beyond the organisers’ direct control. “We have worked and made a huge effort to try to make Tran Tran happen once again,” it says, adding that it put “time, heart, energy and enthusiasm into every step”, but that there are “decisions and circumstances that, on this occasion, are beyond our control”.

The cancellation follows several years of administrative and financial difficulties surrounding the festival, particularly problems collecting payment for services provided at previous editions.

In July this year, Administrative Court No. 4 in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria ordered Tuineje Town Council to make the “immediate payment” of €131,882.49 for three outstanding invoices from the festival’s fourteenth edition.

The dispute had been ongoing for some time. In November 2025, the company Out Now Events AIE formally notified Tuineje Town Council and various bodies that it had still not been paid for invoices nearly a year after the contract ended, and called for the outstanding amounts to be paid.

The 2025 Tran Tran festival itself was in doubt almost until the last moment. It eventually went ahead, albeit in a more limited format, thanks to the support of a whole town that rallied behind its festival.

Not the end, just see you later

The decision not to hold the 2026 edition has now raised questions about the festival’s future.

Equipo Chanita acknowledges that the situation “hurts deeply” because it knows “what Tran Tran means to our people, to Gran Tarajal, to Fuerteventura and to everyone who, year after year, looks forward to this gathering of laughter, colour, culture and joy”.

The organisers stress, however, that this year’s cancellation does not mean the festival is over.

“The fact that Tran Tran isn’t happening this year doesn’t mean it’s over,” they say. “This isn’t the end. It’s see you soon.”

“Next year we’ll be back stronger, with more enthusiasm and more eager than ever,” they declare.

The volunteers also emphasise the collective spirit the festival has acquired over the years. “Tran Tran is all of us,” they say, encouraging everyone who has taken part in or enjoyed the event to show their support publicly.

“Get out your Tran Tran T-shirt. Wear it with pride. Take to the streets. Make it seen,” they urge. The aim, they explain, is to show “that we’re still here. That we’re together. That Tran Tran is alive”.

“And as long as there’s someone willing to put on that T-shirt and shout ‘LONG LIVE TRAN TRAN!’, Tran Tran will keep going,” the statement concludes.
