Nueva Canarias – Bloque Canarista, Podemos, Izquierda Unida and Movimiento Sumar announce a historic agreement for the 29 November elections.

Nueva Canarias – Bloque Canarista, Podemos, Izquierda Unida and Movimiento Sumar will contest the general election on 29 November together under the banner of Unidad del Pueblo Canario (UPC). The four organisations have reached a historic agreement to present a single left-wing ballot in the Canary Islands and respond to the demands of people across the archipelago. The alliance has made defending the interests of the Canary Islands, the right to housing and stronger public services its priorities.

The alliance shares a common goal: to defend the interests of the Canary Islands with a strong voice of their own in the Congress of Deputies. The parties believe it is essential that the archipelago’s distinctive circumstances are heard and respected in state decisions. Rather than remain divided, they have chosen cooperation, mutual respect and political responsibility.

The agreement is built around three main policy priorities: defending the interests of the Canary Islands, guaranteeing the right to housing and protecting public services. The organisations believe that access to decent housing must be an effective right available to everyone in Canarian society. They also call for quality public healthcare, education, the right to shared responsibility for care, and social services. These commitments go hand in hand with defending decent wages, effective equality and the territory. “Today, what wins is the ability to build a better future for the Canary Islands together—not any one party label on its own. Unity does not mean giving up what each organisation stands for, but putting it at the service of a shared project for the people and the territory we live in,” the four forces said.

The organisations have committed to running a joint campaign based on dialogue and consensus, while respecting each force’s distinctive character. Their aim is to establish a transformative left-wing alternative rooted in the realities of every island and municipality. The four forces believe that defending the Canary Islands means putting people’s needs ahead of party interests, with full respect for human rights and a commitment to stopping fascism.

Today, we are presenting the outcome of more than a year’s work to Canarian society. During this time, the organisations have built spaces for meeting, dialogue and trust. The early general election has made it possible to turn that groundwork into a joint candidacy. Four political forces, each with its own history and identity, have decided to move forward together. On 29 November, there will be a single ballot paper: UPC, representing the strength and hope of the Canarian people. The agreement aims to make political unity a tool for defending the rights and needs of the archipelago.

The alliance is also the broadest grouping of organisations presented so far across the state for the 29 November general election.
