CaixaBank increases funding for the Canary Islands tourism sector by 40% in the first half of 2026
CaixaBank increases funding for the Canary Islands tourism sector by 40% in the first half of 2026.
Across Spain, the value of new financing reached €2.5 billion. The figure reinforces the bank’s position as one of the main financial partners of an industry maintaining a high pace of investment and transformation.
Activity over recent years has consolidated a steady growth trajectory. Between 2020 and 2025, the bank channelled nearly €19 billion into the tourism sector, supporting expansion projects as well as plans to modernise, improve and strengthen competitiveness.
In the first half of 2026, CaixaBank completed more than 2,300 credit transactions involving tourist accommodation businesses across Spain, up 35% on the same period a year earlier. Along with the Canary Islands, the Balearic Islands, Madrid, Catalonia and Andalusia received most of the financing granted.
The funds were directed mainly towards refurbishing and upgrading properties, acquiring hotel assets, innovation and sustainability initiatives, and meeting companies’ working capital and operating needs.
At the end of the first half of 2026, the credit portfolio managed by CaixaBank Hotels & Tourism exceeded €10.5 billion, and the division served more than 13,800 clients in the tourist accommodation sector. The bank has a specialist team of more than 40 professionals focused exclusively on the hotel sector, as well as a network of around 2,300 business advisers based at more than 200 business and SME centres and specialist offices.
The financing figures reflect the importance of tourism to Spanish business activity and CaixaBank’s commitment to the sector’s development. In addition to providing access to finance, the bank supports companies as they transform and adapt to new market challenges.
