Pájara backs its primary sector with “Connecting Territories” EVOO technical conference
Pájara is set to boost its primary sector with the “Connecting Territories” EVOO technical conference.
Pájara Town Council will host the “Connecting Territories” EVOO technical conference next Friday, 25 September. The event will bring together professionals and representatives of the olive-growing sector in the Canary Islands and Andalusia to share experience and discuss the challenges and opportunities facing extra virgin olive oil. Primary Sector Councillor José Díaz highlighted the importance of creating spaces for people to meet and “share knowledge, learn from other experiences and continue to boost the olive oil sector in Pájara and Fuerteventura”.
Pájara Mayor Alejandro Jorge said that “initiatives of this kind help strengthen ties between territories and highlight the opportunities offered by the primary sector, while encouraging collaboration and the exchange of experience”.
The event will begin at 10:00 in the council chamber, with a welcome from the attending authorities and a round-table discussion covering various aspects of extra virgin olive oil production, from olive cultivation to processing at the mill, as well as technological innovation, olive oil tourism and marketing strategies.
Participants will include José Manuel Bajo Prados, secretary general of the Baena PDO Regulatory Council; Armando Melián, president of Olivafuer; Macarena Sánchez del Águila, manager of the Córdoba Industrial Olive Mills Business Association; and Tanaira Rodríguez, Olivafuer’s olive mill technician. The discussion will be chaired by Clemente González Lorenzo, presenter of Radio Canaria (RTVC)’s ‘Campo y Mar’ programme.
The programme will continue at 12:00 with the second part of the round-table discussion. At 13:00, José Manuel Bajo Prados of the Baena PDO will lead an extra virgin olive oil tasting. The event will conclude with a cocktail reception accompanied by tapas made with extra virgin olive oil from Olivafuer members and the Baena PDO.
The conference is organised by Pájara Town Council through its Primary Sector Department, with support from the Canary Islands Government’s Department of Agriculture and Fuerteventura Island Council.
