Fuerteventura’s cheeses and wines head to Madrid with Iberia Express

The Canary Islands’ rich culinary heritage is coming to Madrid this month with Iberia Express.

The airline will make use of a new edition of Espacio Iberia, a pop-up space covering more than 1,100 square metres at the Official College of Architects of Madrid (COAM), at 63 Hortaleza Street, to introduce the public to some of the archipelago’s most representative products and flavours.

In collaboration with the tourism boards of Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, Iberia Express has put together a special programme showcasing the identity of these islands through their cuisine. Live cooking demonstrations and tastings will give visitors the chance to discover the quality of local produce and the work of producers, wineries and cheesemakers who keep a unique culinary tradition alive.

A journey through the flavours of Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote

The programme will begin on 4 September with Sabores de Gran Canaria, a live cooking demonstration led by chef Andrés Rodríguez. Known as a miniature continent for the diversity of its landscapes, microclimates and traditions, the island will offer a culinary journey through some of its most distinctive flavours, highlighting the richness and variety of its local produce.

On 9 September, Fuerteventura will take over with a cheese tasting entitled Embarque a Fuerteventura. Visitors will be able to sample some of the island’s best-known Majorero cheeses, all of them award-winners at Agrocanarias 2025 and paired with wines from the island. Made from Majorera goat’s milk and protected by the Queso Majorero Protected Designation of Origin, these cheeses stand out for their quality and distinctive character. They are among Fuerteventura’s most emblematic products and a benchmark for Canarian cuisine in the islands and further afield.

Lanzarote will round off the programme on 17 September with a tasting devoted to its wines, recognised internationally for the distinctive way they are grown on volcanic soil. The special conditions in areas such as La Geria, where vines grow sheltered from the wind in volcanic ash, have given rise to a unique winemaking tradition and wines with a strong identity, now one of the island’s defining hallmarks.

All activities are free, and places can be booked at www.espacioiberia.com.
